Critical Commentary

This book advocates for the use of case studies to teach critical thinking in science. The editors--Clyde Freeman Herreid, Nancy A. Schiller, Ky F. Herreid--founded the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science hosted at the University of Buffalo. Their website is now defunct as most of their case studies are available to download at the NSTA website, except for the teaching notes and the answer key, which require subscription for access.

Of note in the book are ideas about expanding the nature of science and the work of scientists, about distinguishing science from other ways of knowing,  the relevance of the case study to describe the scientific method, about the relationship of science and to society and to ethics.
