The company Hystreet installed three laser scanners for pedestrian counting in big shopping streets in Frankfurt. In cooperation with Hystreet, the municipal GmbH Economic Development hung five more counters to cover also the retail-intense district centers. Reason for this was the wish to use it as a warning system to forecast revenue downs when the number of possible customers is shrinking. However, these counting points are also mentioned in the context of traffic planning as the currently only data source for quantifying pedestrian traffic. The city plans to hang more counters also outside of the shopping areas.
The artifacts that are bundled here include as well a dataset with pedestrian counts from two months as background information that I collected.
