Critical Commentary
This screenshot is captured from the NYT TimesMachine portal. Book reviewer Katherine Bouton writes that the children's book The Magic School Bus Inside the Earth (1988) is revolutionizing the teaching of elementary school science, just what Sesame Street did for the teaching of letters and numbers. With Ms. Frizzle, learning is so fun, it's almost incidental. Bouton notes Ms. Frizzle's weird outfits and frames her in the "great tradition of brilliant, demanding, and totally un-self-conscious--or are they totally self-conscious--teachers."
