I am Anneke Boersma, a PhD candidate at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Officially the title of my PhD is "The Dietary Shift, Sustainability and Health in India and the Netherlands". Due to the pandemic, my supervisors and I have decided to focuses primarly on the Netherlands for now. I am still working on my proposal, so I would say that I am still in an exploratory phase of my PhD. My aim is to contribute to the approaches that exist to reduce meat consumption, but I want to do so inclusive way. How? That's is the question!
There are themes that will certainly come back into my research and that is my focus on inclusivity, bottom-up approaches, an holistic approach to sustainability, and action-research. I would also add colonialism and gender inequality to my research interests, although I am not entirely sure yet how I will incorporate that into my research.
Skills that might be of use when collaborating is my talent to make people at ease and to be a facilitator. I keep an eye on people, pay attention to the group dynamics and respond accordingly. I hope to be able to use those social skills to ensure people feel safe and they can learn at their pace.
PS. No idea how to turn this picture around... :-)
