EVENT: Dreaming of Health and Science in Africa: Aesthetics, Affects, Poetics and Politics

This conference which ran from June 13 - 15, 2015 at Hinxton Hall, Wellcome Trust Conference Centre (UK) sought to open a conversation on forms of possibility and violence that are enabled and take effect through dreams of health and science in Africa. The conference brought together historians, anthropologists, geographers, scientists, architects and artists to animate connections between politics and aesthetics, affective relations and materiality, suggesting paths ahead for interdisciplinary inquiry. The conversation asked how we can understand which, how and why futures for African science and health have been delayed, narrowed and closed off, and to expand the boundaries, of time and possibility, of current imaginations beyond the constraints of “global health”?

This PECE essay helps to answer the STS Across Borders analytic question: "What events have marked the development of this STS formation?".

This essay is part of an essay on events that have helped to bring the "STS in Africa" formation together, which is part of a broader exhibit on "STS in Africa."
