Natasha Vally

Natasha Vally is a PhD Fellow at WiSER. Her research on social assistance in South Africa is an ethnographic project with a view to unravel the underlying significant theoretical implications embedded in all levels of application for, and delivery of, state social grants. When she was still a historian her Masters degree explored the concept of political quiescence in select South African townships in the 1960s. When she was still a mathematician she completed a BSc (Honours) degree. She has lectured on South African social movements and feminist theory.

This PECE essay helps to answer the STS Across Borders analytic question: “What people, projects, and products exemplify how this STS formation has developed over time?”

This essay highlights prominant and upcoming individuals working on critical science and technology issues in Africa and is part of a broader exhibit on "STS in Africa."
