Case studies

Joseph Satish: The Knowledge Swaraj manifesto was conceptualized as a framework to take forward a specific agenda: that of engaging different stakeholders beyond scientists and "experts" in the socialization of science and technology in India and beyond. Towards this effect, it was decided that the investigation of practices will focus on the work of civil society organisations as proxies for peoples knowledge given the importance given in the manifesto about Knowledge Swaraj and the need to strengthen the relations between knowledge and democracy. Ultimately, three different case studies were chosen for articulating the ideas in the manifesto to a wider audience. These case studies were of medical ethics in the case of unintended hysterectomies in a district, sustainable built environment in villages affected by natural disasters, democratizing access to water through watershed management.
