Critical Commentary

On October 23th, 2017, I went on a trip to Xalapa, Veracruz, accompanying a group of anthropologists of the Mexican Forensic Anthropology Team (EMAF), based in Mexico City. EMAF anthropologists were invited to a workshop with archaeology students at the Autonomous University of Veracruz's Department of Anthropology in Xalapa.

Today Veracruz is one of the states with the most disappeared people in Mexico. Colectivo Solecito, a group of searching mothers of Veracruz, has uncovered 107 graves, containing 124 skulls and myriad other remains, in the area known as Colinas de Santa Fe. It is the largest mass grave discovered in Mexico so far.
