Purbasha Das is a doctoral candidate at the Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research explores the social history of road transport in the Indian cities of Delhi, Bombay(Mumbai) and Madras(Chennai). The aim of her research is to understand the transition from older forms of transport to modern modes of transport such as trams, taxis and buses. The larger research aim of her thesis is to understand the connection between technological modernity and transport in colonial and post-colonial India.
