Michael Berman holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from UCSD and an M.A. in social sciences from the University of Chicago. He researches the relationship between compassion, alienation, and acts of listening as aspects of governance. Those interests have allowed him to participate in a wide range of meaningful conversations about the nature of social engagement, meaning and social collectivities, and pedagogy.
