Biography

Leah Master is a PhD student at New York University in the Childhood Education and Science Education Programs in Teaching and Learning. Initially trained as a historian of design and material culture at Bard Graduate Center, Leah started her career in museums as an educator and exhibition designer. After teaching multiple university courses and museum programs, Leah realized her true passion was teaching, so she obtained a dual master’s in museum and childhood education from Bank Street College of Education, which led to six years as a STEM teacher, four of those in a dual-language school. Leah’s research interests include inquiry and phenomenon-based teaching methodologies, student scientific sensemaking and experiential knowledge acquisition, feminist materialities and new materialities, informal and nonformal learning methods, site-based environmental education, linguistic and cultural diversity in STEM, and the intersection of language and science learning. She still teaches in a museum and nature preserve in her area.
