The Center sponsors or co-sponsors approximately 15 events each academic year that bring together core faculty, students, affiliates, faculty from other colleges, and scholars from elsewhere in the region (e.g. the Chemical Heritage Foundation, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Consortium for the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine).
• Each of our monthly Works-in-Progress sessions features the research of one faculty member and one graduate student from Drexel’s STS community speaking candidly about their current work and the challenges they face in their research; these events in particular enact the Center’s collegial atmosphere and its commitment to intellectual rigor, student training, and research productivity.
• Our STS Colloquium Series brings esteemed STS scholars from other institutions to Drexel, giving our students a window into the great diversity of important research being done in the field.
• Finally, the Center routinely contributes to major events that convene important thinkers from around the country and the world to develop networks and to engage contemporary social challenges: we organized the Philadelphia Energy Futures Summit in 2016, in addition to co-sponsoring the NSF funded Conceptualizing Environmental Exposure Workshop (with the Chemical Heritage Foundation) and Spinoffs of Mobility (with the Center for Mobilities Research) in 2014 and Anthropocene Campus Philadelphia in 2017. In 2018, the Center for STS will host an NSF-sponsored workshop on Law and STS and co-host a workshop on Science & Technology from the Global South with the University of Pennsylvania.
