Verification As Profession Process and Product

The proposed study analyses the relationship and the co-constructive influence between fact-checking and the Indian digital news media ecosystem. The study shall closely compare and follow the history and operation of four Indian digital news publications, which all provide a fact-checking function. In doing so, the study asks how the normative and operative functions of fact-checking influence the production and performance of digital news publications amidst the news ecosystem. Broadly, the study seeks to understand how fact-checking has affected, if not changed, Indian journalism’s operation and production. More specifically, the study seeks to understand the technological, organizational, and discursive innovations that fact-checking’s profession and professionalism can be linked to within the Indian media landscape
