Critical Commentary

Green plastic grocery bag. The side says "I'm green plástico > 51% de fonte renovável" and "Fabricado por Valfilm." I went digging in the Valfilm website and at one point it says made from sugarcane, although this isn't super obvious. Then I looked up the "I'm green plástico" logo and found this is Braskem's branding; Braskem's green plastic is made from sugarcane, but is not biodegradable because it is chemically identical to petro-based plastic. The "Materiais Recicláves Secos" on the front of the bag is for reusing it to collect dry recyclables; there are identical grey bags that say "Materiais Não Recicláveis" but still have the "I'm green" label. Follow up: as of April 13, 2022, the bags no longer have the "I'm Green" label.
