Critical Commentary

PS: Linn et al. (2016) review over a century of educational research about K-12 science taching and learning. They demarcate this history in four periods, beginning from separation to integration. Separation is the silo-ing of educational research and practie. Integration is the coming together of different expertise like cognitive science, psychology, computer-based learning, and design-based pedagogy under the framework of 'learning sciences'. The authors establish learning sciences as the pivot of transformation in educational research. This article helps me understand why learning sciences are so influential in educational thinking today in the U.S.
