Karen Nguyen is currently an undergraduate student pursuing a bachelors in Criminal Justice with a minor in Adolescent Development at California State University, Fullerton. She is a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma Gamma Rho Chapter and serves as the community liaison. She is also a member of the Child Adolescent Studies Student Association club where she serves as the membership manager.
One of Karen’s passions is volunteering with local non-profit organizations in the community and attending volunteer events. For the past year, she has volunteered as a mentor for America On Track’s Brighter Futures for Children of Prisoners program. This program serves children from families where one or more parents may be incarcerated, deported, or under house arrest. As a mentor, Karen dedicates weekly one-on-one time to her mentee and attends special events put together by America On Track.
Karen is currently researching community-based organizations. Through her work in the community and with America On Track, she developed an interest in researching the efficacy of intervention programs that serve at-risk youth in the community. By pursuing this research, Karen hopes to improve the current programs serving youth and spread awareness about the importance of having these programs.
