I found it interesting in reading Duygu's comments on Belen's paper her reflection about seeing parallel's between Istanbul Lab and Kaleidos. I also see some resonance with our experience at iHub Research (which was not affiliated with a university). While at times that hampered us (mainly in dealing with beurocratic aspects and proving our legitimacy), we also found it to be an opportunity precisely because it didn't bog us down to perform "real knowledge" in the narrow ways that were recognized and counted by the university. Our outputs (reports, blog posts, events, infographics, etc. etc.) were meant for a much broader audience than just a scholarly monograph or journal article.
