Mission

Ending mass incarceration by activating the power of the people it directly impacts.

Background

Initiate Justice has an inside-outside strategy where we prioritize organizing people directly impacted by incarceration, inside and outside prison walls. Initiate Justice aims to end incarceration in California and implement just reforms, thus seeks the insights of people who have been directly impacted by the current system, who know where it fails and what they need to be safe and treated fairly. They do this work through an organized, powerful community that engages with policymakers and designs their own answers to the problems faced.
