She think that the Cold War motivated an extreme worldwide competence, particularly between two of the biggest nations in the world, USA and the late USSR, for the sake of reaching more power. And I think that such urge for power is leading a constant an unstoppable competence worldwide. And engineering in any field, being one of the bases for the development of our society, is certainly being influenced by the ideologies considered during the Cold War. These ideologies have been modified or have evolved to fit in modern days, perhaps there is some ethic involved but the spirit of competition is still out there.
Particularly, the development of technology that has grew with modernization, the military R&D. The World War II and subsequently the Cold War molded the roots, the origins of the current status of the countries worldwide.
By taking as an example South Korea and North Korea and how the most prominent competitors of the Cold War become allies of each side of the Peninsula in the Korean War. As an outcome of the war, up until today both countries continue their respective military R&D motivated by the need of protection and to be prepared, since the war is in dormant state. Even though many time has pass, the aftermath of the Cold War shaped in the beginning the requirement for development and this need for development continues until today.
