Taiwan energy policy

[my answer]

Taiwan's No. 4 nuclear power plant and the storage of nuclear waste in Lanyu island ... have caused many controversies, leading some citizens to want to stop using the No. 4 nuclear power plant and abolish nuclear power generation. Therefore, Taiwan's recent nuclear energy policy is to gradually reduce the use of nuclear energy and then gradually abolish nuclear energy.

Compared with nuclear energy, the renewable energy promoted by the governments of various countries is more suitable for long-term use, has a low degree of environmental pollution, and will not have the problem of nuclear waste accumulation.

Furthermore, after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, I think that there are nuclear power plants, and the same problems may occur at any time due to war or failure of nuclear power plants.

Therefore, I think reducing the dependence on nuclear energy and increasing the use of renewable energy is the most suitable choice for Taiwan.

Vietnam nuclear energy policy

[my partner's answer]

Because of the big budget, my country currently does not have any nuclear power plant. There are plans to build one in the future.

In my opinion, renewable energy now has low stability. They need other sources keep the grid stable, i.e. hydroelectric energy and nuclear energy. Therefore, with current techniques, renewable energy can only contribute to a portion of the electricity consumption, around 10 - 20%.

Taiwan nuclear energy policy

[my reflection]

After the nuclear disaster in Japan, the people of Taiwan paid more attention to the issue of nuclear energy. In 2016, the Taiwan government announced that it will make Taiwan a non-nuclear homeland by 2025. Reduce the existing proportion of nuclear power generation to zero, and change Taiwan's power generation to coal, natural gas and renewable energy. Taiwan is a country highly dependent on imported energy. This disadvantage is that energy prices are vulnerable to fluctuations in international situations and international relations. Just like today’s European countries, because of supporting Ukraine, Russia reduces the supply of natural gas and oil, so it needs to increase the power generation capacity of other energy sources, otherwise it will have a cold winter, or the price of oil will increase during the Persian Gulf War. Furthermore, due to the impact of the Japanese nuclear disaster, WNA rated Taiwan's four nuclear power plants as the most dangerous in the world, because Taiwan is located on the seismic belt and will face triple threats such as earthquakes, tsunamis and floods.

Therefore, I think Taiwan must abolish nuclear power generation and focus on developing renewable energy so that Taiwan can be self-sufficient in energy.
