Critical Commentary

This essay focuses on the production and reinforcement of marginality in engineering education (in the United States) and on how students identifying as LGB navigate the heteronormativity of the field. While some scholars have previously written about gender and race-based marginalization in engineering education, this essay breaks new ground with its focus on how engineers negotiate between their sexual and professional identities.
